Brian “Professer B Davis” Baseball Multi Media Staff Writer – At Citizens Park in South Philadelphia on Thursday night the Giants dropped the rubber game of the three-game series against the defending World Champion Philadelphia Phillies three -time Cy Young Pedro  Martinez was total vintage the way he dominated back in the mid-late 90′s on by pitching 7.0 innings giving up one run on five hits and nine strikeouts while the reining Cy Young champ Tim Lincecum also went 7.0 innings giving up two runs on four hits with eleven strikeouts in the losing effort as the Giants were a dismal 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position while Jayson Werth and Ryan Howard both accounted for the Phillies two runs with Werth’s homer off Lincecum in the bottom  of the second inning  and then in the bottom of the sixth inning a RBI double by Ryan Howard scoring Chase Utley  Phillies closer picked up his 28th save of the season. With win the Phillies Maintain their 8.5 games lead in the National League East standings over both the Braves and Marlins while the Giants remained 1.0 behind the Colorado Rockies in the National League wild card standings as the Rockies dropped their series finale against the New York Mets at Coors Field by a score behind the pitching by former Giants pitcher Pat Misch who earned his first career major-league win.

In other baseball news long time Detroit Tigers play-by-play Hall of Famer announcer Ernie Harwell is battling with cancer. Harwell who ‘s been with the Tigers announcer for four decades all to his retirement in 2002. Harwell 91, was hospitalized several weeks with bile duct obstruction the baseball. Harwell who in his tenure broadcast the Tigers two World Series Championship teams in 1968 and in 1984 when that Tigers team won 35 of it’s first 40 games en route to win the World Series.

That was some fine performance… both sides of the rubber! Too bad Lincecum can’t get the run support during those many games he keeps another team to 2 runs or less! Pedro has now proven he belongs back in the Show ; )
