BRIAN ” Professer B” Davis Staff Writer- On Wednesday both Colorado Rockies manager Jim Tracy and Los Angeles Angles manager Mike Scioscia both won their respective annual consensus manager of the year in their respective leagues. Tracy won the award in the National League as he led the Rockies after replacing Clint Hurdle on May 29 as he guided the Rockies to a 74-42 record with the best record in the the all of baseball only the World Champion New York Yankees had a better record from June 1st of this year and addition to being named manager of the year in the National League the Rockies have agreed on a 3-year contract terms of the contract are undisclosed as he led the Rockies to a 92-70 record this year a new franchise record since it’s inception in 1993.
Colorado Rockies Manager of the Year Recipient
Don Baylor 1995
Jim Tracy 2009
Also the 2009 American League Manager of The Year went to Los Angeles Angles of Anaheim manager Mike Scioscia who guided the Angles to their fifth A.L. West title in the last six years and their sixth postseason appearance since 2002 in that same year he also won the AL manager of the year with a World Series title over the San Francisco Giants. In the 10 years as Angles manager most experts could claim incuding myself could have Scioscia’s best managing and the challenges that his team and the entire Angles origanization had to face with the tragedy loss of rookie Angles pitcher Nick Adenhart who died in a car accident along with Courtney Steward and Henry Pearson by a drunk driver back on April 9 of this year. In the aftermath of the death of 22-year old Nick Adenhart the Angles rallied after losing the services of John Lackey for extended period of time and adversity to win their third A.L. West title.
And finally the two-time National League Champion Philadelphia Phillies are seeking the interest of utility infielder Mark De Rosa to replace Pedro Feliz at third base. De Rosa in 2009 hit batted .250 with 23 homers and 78 RBIs overall with his time split between the Cleveland Indians and the St.Louis Cardinals. The reason would be that De Rosa is from New Jersey and attended Penn University in Philadelphia and according to foxsports.com reported that the Phillies are the favorite via from a Major Legue source but the Phillies are are interested in Placido Polanco and Adrian Beltre. Other choices like former American League MVP Miguel Tejada.
Or the Phillies and Placido Polanco could re-unite as Polanco who came in return in the Scott Rolen trade from the Cardinals at the 2002 trade deadline played 3.5 years before helping the Detroit Tigers to their first American League Pennant since 1984 and was named the ALCS MVP and he is not looking for a mega deal. Polanco made $4.6 million this past season. But threr is a twist with Polanco he is a Type A free agent and if the Tigers offer him salary arbitration, the Phillies will forfiet their first-round pick to the Tigers in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft if the Phillies sign him.
